Le Portage Golf Club

Le Portage Golf Club is a public 18-hole parkland course situated in Chéticamp, Nova Scotia, along the celebrated Cabot Trail. Opened in 1984 and designed by Robert and David Moote, the course plays to a par 72 over 6,777 yards, making it a full-length test suited to a wide range of handicaps.

The layout blends tree-lined parkland corridors with stretches of more open, links-influenced terrain. Tee shots demand accuracy, with tree-framed fairways penalizing wayward drives throughout the round. Three holes carry enough distinction to have earned their own names: the 2nd, called Le Cap-Rouge; the 10th, Cheticamp; and the 17th, La Père Fiset. That naming convention hints at a course with a strong sense of local identity rooted in the Acadian character of the surrounding community.

At 6,777 yards, Le Portage presents enough length to challenge low-handicap players while remaining accessible to mid- and high-handicappers who can manage the wooded sections. As a public facility on the Cabot Trail, it draws both residents and visitors touring one of Canada's most scenic coastal routes, making it a natural stop for golfers passing through Cape Breton.
